Ingredients
6 items
- Ewedu leaves (use a variety that naturally draws)
- Water
- 1/4 teaspoon Baking soda
- Iru (locust beans) (optional, added at the end)
- Crayfish (optional, added at the end)
- Salt (added at the end)
Instructions
5 steps
- Bring the water to a rolling boil before adding the leaves.
- Add the baking soda, then the ewedu leaves. Stir gently as they wilt into the water.
- Do not cover the pot while cooking.
- Once the leaves are soft, blend them with a hand blender, or whisk with a traditional ijabe (broom), until smooth.
- Add the iru, crayfish and salt only after the ewedu has the drawing texture you want, then finish cooking.
Cooking tips
- Using a variety of ewedu leaves that naturally draws matters most.
- The baking soda keeps the colour bright and improves the draw.
